4 – DIY – Hang Tags

My situation is a bit different than most.  My permanent booth is set up in a consignment setting.  Although I am there most of the time, everything is sold through the antique store.  This complicates bookkeeping.  The owners want a tag they can remove from the item in order to complete their own bookkeeping.  A tiny price tag just will not do the job.

Over the 2 years I have been in this setting I have slowly developed a system that works for both of us.  Although is more expensive than a simple price tag, it is easy to work the cost into my pricing structure.  (More on pricing later.)

Step 1.  Order business cards to be used as price tags.

Using VistaPrints templates, I designed a vertical card to be folded for use.  In this case the paper offered was glossy.  It is a great look, but is more difficult to fold.  Since I want to use it for my regular line as well as my La Belle Harmonie Line, I chose to use transparent address labels to identify the line.  The D6 is my vendor number.

The garment tag was purchased in bulk at approx. $.005 each.  This tag allows the customer to retain the top half which also has the description on the back – listing the elements that were used; the metal the stones, etc.  Meanwhile the shop owner removes the bottom half, uses the information (price and vendor number) for his bookkeeping and returns the bottom to me, so I can remove the item from my inventory list, my artfire listing, etc.

hang tab

If I need to be able to hang my item for display I use an adhesive hang tab.  Depending on the price, the cost is approx. $.10 each.

A completed tag, without the hang tab, costs 2 ½ cents, with the tag is costs 12 cents.   I try to use the tabs sparingly.  And, either way, I include the cost in the price of the item.

Needless to say, the suggestions in the referenced article will save you money.  Although they just didn’t fit my needs, they will most probably fit yours.
